MEMORIES (the Prologue to my novel, CIRCLES OF CONFUSION)
Pellets of colour and random shapes rain down on Duncan MacGregor as he gazes toward the last remnants of his memories hanging on the wall. Labyrinthine details — questions more than answers — litter his vision like the kaleidoscopic compositions of his childhood.
Extemporaneous sounds blend the cacophonous irritations from traffic and verbal disagreements, with sighs of still vivid ecstasies, and harmonious laughter. Duncan’s senses explode in a relentless audio-visual confusion, a thunderous big bang of destruction and new creation.
Love, compassion, revenge, mystery, all components of his obsessive passion for being, rotate like comets, planets, asteroids, and cosmic dust, in some pre-ordained circle of confusion around a life force; a fire that flickers before the final embers succumb to the freezing night and the black hole that sucks the debris into nowhere; or to somewhere else.
Memories: a collaboration between the facts and the fictions of our life.
The completion of another circle.
Such is life.
